What is Somatic Experiencing?
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a powerful, evidence-based modality that helps individuals overcome the effects of trauma and stress. Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, SE focuses on the body's natural ability to regulate and heal itself, allowing clients to release the physical and emotional impacts of past experiences.
Understanding Somatic Experiencing
At its core, Somatic Experiencing recognizes that trauma is not just a mental or emotional experience, but a physiological one as well. When we encounter a traumatic event, our bodies go into a state of heightened arousal, triggering the fight-or-flight response. However, in many cases, we are unable to fully complete this natural stress response, leaving behind unresolved energy and tension in the body.
Somatic Experiencing helps clients tap into this innate, biological healing process by gently guiding them through the sensations and experiences stored within the body.
